yuuuuuuk guys, we learn idioms in english =)

Idiom is an expression, word, or phrase that has a figurative meaning that is comprehended in regard to a common use of that expression that is separate from the literal meaning or definition of the words of which it is made. There are estimated to be at least 25,000 idiomatic expressions in the English language.

idioms usually use order of adjective :
1. Determine
2. Opinion
3. Size
4. Age
5. Shape
6. Colour
7. Origin
8. Material
9. Purpose



The various idioms in english :

# about to - ready to; on the verge of (siap untuk) diawali 'be'
 example : i'm glad you're finally home. I was just about to have dinner without you.

# after all - despite everything; when everything has been considered; the fact is (lagian / lagipula)
 example : you'd better invite Ed to your party. After all, he's a good friend.

# at least - anyway; the good thing is that... (setidaknya)
 example : Tracy can't afford to buy car, but at least she has a good bicycle.

# (to) break the news - to make something known (memberi tahu)
 example : You'd better break the news to your father carefully. After all, you don't want him to have a heart attack!


# (to) cost an arm and a leg - to be very expensive (mahal)
 example : All of the furniture at Honest Abe's cost an arm and a leg!

# dead-end job - a job that won't lead to anything else (pekerjaan buntu)
 example : Diane realize that working as a cashier was a dead-end job.

# (let's) face it - accept a difficult reality (hadapi)
 example : Let's face it, if Ted spent more time studying, he wouldn't be failing so many of his classes!

# (to) give one the creeps - to create a feeling of disgust or horror (menakutkan)
 example : There was a strange man following me around the grocery store. He was giving me the creeps!

# (to) go back to the drawing board - to start a task over because the last try failed; to start again from the beginning (mengulang)
 example : Frank's new bussines failed, so he had to go back to the drawing  board.

# (to) go belly-up - to go bankrupt (bangkrut)
 example : Many people lost their job when Enron went belly-up.

# (to) give someone the ax - to fire someone (mengampak)
 example : Mary use to talk to her friend on teh phone all day at work, until one day her boss finally gave her the ax.

# (to) lose one's temper - to became very angry (lepas / hilang kendali)
 example : When Ted handed in his essay two weeks late, his teacher really lost her temper.

# (to) make up one's mind - to reach a decision; to decide (memutuskan)
 example : Stephanie cuoldn't make up her mind whether to attend Harvard or Stanford. Finally, she chose Stanford.

# no point in - no reason; it's not worth >> [doing something] (tidak ada gunanya)
 example : There's no point in worrying about things you can't change.

# (to) put up with - to endure without complaint (bertahan)
 example : For many years, Barbara put up with her husband's anoying behaviour. Finally, she decided to leave him.

# real flop or flop - a failure (gagal)
 example : The Broadway play closed after just 4 days - it was a real flop!


# (to) save the day - tp prevent a disaster or misfortune (menyelamatkan)
 example : We forgot to buy champagne for our New Year's party, but Sonia brought some and really saved the day!


# (as) sharp as a tack - very intelligent (sangat cerdas)
 example : Anna got a scholarship to Yale. She's as sharp as a tack.


# (to) talk over - to discuss (mendiskusikan)
 example : Dave and I spent hours talking over the details of the plan.


# top dollar - the highest end of a price range; a lot of money (harga selangit)
 example : Wait until those jeans go o n sale. Why pay top dollar?
